TUSCAN REMEDY

After a comfortable, uninterrupted night's sleep what better than to wake up for breakfast in a place that offers a feast for the eyes.  Strategically placed in the heart of Tuscan wine country between the vineyards of the owners, Il Poggione, and Col d'Orcia the agriturismo Il Poggione is an old estate farmhouse that has been restored and divided up into seven independent flats, which can be rented individually or all together, with accommodation ranging from a nest for two to the more spacious option for five guests.

The decoration, above all in the smaller apartments, is quite sparse, but well suited to the hot summer weather.  Each apartment has its own area outside complete with table and chairs, whilst there is a communal pool just below the farmhouse which benefits from a constant breeze, important in the hot months of July and August.
The position is wonderfully secluded, offering a complete escape from the trials and tribulations of everyday life but for holiday makers with itchy feet there is plenty to do in the immediate area from exploring the cellars of the 250 winemakers of Montalcino to a quick pilgrimage to the spiritual abbey of Sant'Antimo.  Further afield are the delights of towns and cities such as Siena, San Gimignano and San Casciano dei Bagni with its natural springs and sophisticated spas.  A car is, however, essential as the agriturismo is down a dirt track lined with its spiky vegetation and halfway down the valley.  Prices start at euro 600 for a week.
